“Sunar Yesu” by Adi Eze, also known as Adi Eze of Africa, is a powerful Hausa gospel song that glorifies the name of Jesus. Released as a single on October 23, 2016, this song has touched lives across Nigeria, especially in the northern regions, where it resonates with believers as a source of hope and strength. Adi Eze, a pastor and Nigerian-born minister, wrote this song as a declaration of faith in the healing, saving, and delivering power of Jesus Christ.
The song’s lyrics focus on the name of Jesus as a source of inheritance, help, and victory. The repetition of “Sunar Yesu” (the name of Jesus) reminds listeners of the profound truth found in scriptures like Acts 4:12, which proclaims, “There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” This song is a musical confession of faith, celebrating Jesus as the ultimate provider and protector.
Throughout the song, each line builds on the power associated with Jesus’ name. “Sunar Yesu, Gado na ne” (the name Jesus is my inheritance) reflects the promise in Romans 10:13, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” This powerful declaration is followed by “Sunar Yesu, Taimako na” (the name Jesus is my help), a reminder of John 14:14, where Jesus assures His followers, “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
“Sunar Yesu” is not only a song of worship but also one of encouragement, providing hope to those who feel downtrodden. As believers sing “Sunar Yesu, Nasara na ne” (the name Jesus is my victory), they are reminded that their triumph in life comes from Jesus alone, echoing the confidence of 1 Corinthians 15:57, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
This song has become a cherished anthem, particularly in northern Nigeria, uniting people across cultures and languages. Adi Eze, an Igbo artist who grew up in Kaduna, masterfully brings this song to life in Hausa, bridging cultural divides and demonstrating the unifying power of worship in Jesus’ name.
