“Breathe” by Dunsin Oyekan is a powerful gospel song centered on the sustaining presence and life-giving breath of God. In this song, Oyekan draws on imagery from Genesis 2:7, where God breathes life into Adam, illustrating that God’s breath is a divine and vital force that animates and transforms. Through lyrics like “Father to child, Spirit to spirit, lighted by Your word,” Oyekan emphasizes the intimate relationship between God and believers, as well as the transformative power of God’s word and spirit.
The recurring line, “Just breathe Your name upon me,” serves as a plea for God’s presence, a reminder that His spirit revives and brings everything to life. Like Job 33:4, which says, “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life,” this song speaks of God’s breath as the source of strength and renewal. Oyekan’s lyrics create a call for worshippers to experience a closer walk with God, allowing His breath to empower them and change their lives.
This song has become a favorite in worship settings, drawing listeners into a reflective and awe-inspired atmosphere, and is available across various streaming platforms for those who want to experience its message firsthand.
